Kathmandu: The seventh meeting of the Nepal-India joint commission concluded with the signing of four significant agreements on Thursday.

During the meeting, a comprehensive review of the entire spectrum of bilateral relations and cooperation took place. The agreements, spanning bilateral network expansion, trade, water resources, and power trade, were signed in the presence of Foreign Minister Narayan Prakash Saud and Indian External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar.

According to Amrit Bahadur Rai, the spokesperson at the Foreign Ministry, one of the agreements pertains to Indian grant assistance for the implementation of high-impact community development through government agencies or corporations.

The other three agreements include a long-term energy trade deal, cooperation between Nepal Electricity Authority and National Thermal Power Corporation on the development of renewable energy, and collaboration between Nepal Academy of Science and Technology (NAST) and New Space India (NSI) on the launch of a Nepali satellite.

Under the power trade agreement, Nepal is set to export 10,000 MW of electricity to India over the next ten years.

Simultaneously, the inauguration of three 132-KV interstate transmission lines—Raxaul-Parwanipur, Mainahiya-New Nautanawa, and Kushaha-Kataiya—marked a milestone on the same day. The joint inauguration was carried out by Foreign Minister NP Saud and his Indian counterpart S Jaishankar.

As part of the bilateral collaboration, the Indian government has also announced a grant assistance of Rs 10 billion to Nepal for post-quake reconstruction.
